Programming your ALRT Med Reminder Model PC100.
- Remove pull tab from back of the Reminder to activate battery
- Starting from your desktop, double click on the ALRT Med Reminder Icon. If the
Icon did not automatically appear on the desktop, you can create this shortcut by going to
Windows Explorer>Program Files>ALRT. Right click on the ALRT icon and left click on Create
Shortcut, or drag the icon to your desktop.
- Both the Instructions and the ALRT Programmer Interface will appear on your screen.
- First make sure that the programming cable is connected to the Med Reminder and your PC
using the serial port programming cable provided. Be certain that your computer is set for the
correct time of day. Then follow the programming instructions displayed on the screen.
- When programming is completed, disconnect the Med Reminder from the programming cable.
- If, when you attempt to program the Reminder, you encounter the message "THE ALRT MED
REMINDER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE CONNECTED TO ANY OF YOUR COM SERIAL PORT(S). PLEASE CONNECT
AND TRY AGAIN" after pressing the "Program the Reminder" button, then it is possible the
COM port of your computer is already occupied by a Personal Data Assistant (PDA), such as
the Hot Sync Manager for Palm PDA. If so, you may temporarily disengage this feature from
the COM port by right clicking your cursor on the Hot Sync Manager icon located on the task
bar in the lower right hand corner of your screen and then clicking "Exit." This will
free up the occupied COM port and allow you to continue the ALRT PC100 programming routine.
The Hot Sync Manager can be re-started from the Palm Desktop program group on the start menu.
- The Med Reminder will now sound an alert with an audio beeping sound and a blinking light at the programmed time(s) every day.
Press the "ALRT" button when the alert sounds. This will silence the alarm.
Acknowledging the Reminder Alert and Silencing the Alarm
When the alarm sounds press "ALRT" button to silence the alarm. (Unit responds with a number
of beeps corresponding to the number of daily reminder events for which it is set). Take
the appropriate medication.
Clearing or Reprogramming Set Reminder Alerts
Reconnect the programming cable to the Med Reminder, double click on the ALRT Med Reminder
Icon on your desktop, and follow the instructions on the screen for entering reminder event
times or by clicking "Erase Reminder".
Additional Features:
- Acknowledging a Missed Alert Reminder: If you do not hear the reminder
alarm when
it sounds, the light will continue to blink indefinitely and the alarm will sound the alert for
30 seconds every 10 minutes (every 15 minutes after the first hour). This will continue until
you press the "ALRT" button,
which will sound the alarm again. Then press the "ALRT" button again to acknowledge the event.
- The Switch on the side of the Med Reminder: The switch has two positions, "Norm"
(Normal) and "Act" (Activate). The switch is used only for the early activation feature
(see below).
It should be left in the "Norm" position except when being used for early activation.
- Early Activation: You may activate a reminder event before its
scheduled time. Move the switch on the side to the "Act" position and then press
and hold the "ALRT" button, and while holding it down, move the switch back to
the "Norm" position and then release the "ALRT" button. The Reminder will now
sound the alert. Acknowledge and silence the alarm by pressing the "ALRT"
button. At this point the Reminder
will automatically skip the next timing of this event and revert to its original settings.
Batteries:
Batteries are included and are replaceable. Battery life will vary depending on usage. Upon replacing batteries, the reminder times will need to be reset.
Revised instructions for changing batteries:
The ALRT Med Reminder contains two Alkaline Cell Batteries # LR44. To replace the batteries,
loosen small center screw on back of Reminder and remove the small cover. Remove the old batteries
and insert the new batteries with the larger flat side of both batteries away from the spring;
then replace cover and tighten screw. The Reminder is now ready to be reset with reminder time(s).
The ALRT Med Reminder should be used as a supplement for remembering to take or
administer medication on time, and should not be relied upon solely.
